"I Know This Is What We're Here To Do, BUT... It Hurts So Bad!

Posted on Sat Feb 21st, 2026 @ 3:47pm by Master Chief Petty Officer Chuck Finley [Reece] & Lieutenant J'airesh Mora-Heath

Mission: Season 6: Episode 6: Conglomerate
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD7 / 0543
594 words - 1.2 OF Standard Post Measure

It was only a few hours since the last critical patient had been treated. Chuck, like the other prebattle patients in Sickbay, who could, has vacated their biobeds for the freshly wounded. He had returned to his cabin to rest as much as he could. He found it impossible. Between being too injured to help defend his home and friends, and worried sick about his love and what she was going through, he finally got up, showered and dressed in clean off duty clothes. He then located J'airesh's location through the computer, and found that she was currently in her office in Sickbay.

After putting together a small food basket, he limped his way back down to Sickbay, and made his way to his destination. Upon reaching it, I looked in the open door, and saw J'airesh sitting behind her desk, her head rest on her folded arms. He tapped gently on the open doorframe, not wanting to startle her if she was napping. "Special delivery," he said softly from where he stood.

J'Air had fallen asleep right in the middle of her PaDDs, trying to update all the records of all the cases she had dealt with before the sheer number of them caused her to forget essential details. Despite the lightness of his tap, Chuck's arrival woke J'Air up and her exhaustion made her slow to clear her head but the sight of his gorgeous face was all it took to inject a whole new wave of energy into her heart at least, even if her arms and legs were still sluggish.

She leapt up and almost lost her footing completely but her enthusiasm and momentum carried her somehow towards him, only to drop into his arms, the basket wobbling precariously onto the edge of the desk as she smothered him with kisses.

"Oh MY!" she gasped between kisses. "Aren't YOU a sight for sore eyes!?" she held him to her so tightly and so close that it was hard for herself to breathe let alone his crushed chest. Fortunately, he was so strong and muscled that his chest held and hers was almost winded instead. She was forced to let go and just hold his face between her fingertips, tears from all the stress and strain of the whole situation falling down her cheeks as she gazed adoringly at him.

Finally the basket of food seemed to wobble a little further away - she had no idea if she had elbowed it or what had happened but it wasn't relevant other than in that it pulled her attention towards it.

"...... and you brought food!" she sighed. "You are an Angel! The most amazing, fantastic, gorgeous miracle life ever delivered to me. I....... I was so afraid I might lose you......" she faltered for a moment and threw herself back into his arms, hoping to stay like this for the rest of eternity - if not longer!"

Chuck held her close, kissing her when she brought her full lips to his. They then spent the next hour in her office, eating the food he had brought, and both bottles of spring wine as well.

They continued to talk, laugh, cry and start to smile again, as they attempted to overcome the horrible events that had transpired during the last week. They both agreed, if things didn't improve drastically, and soon, the crew would start to fall apart. Even with all of their trading and past experiences, there is only so much a person could endure before their psyche completely.
