Two of Nine had long ago lost track of time, as it never seemed to make sense wherever it was in the unknown region, how long it had lingered in this region was difficult to tell, but it had been cut off from the Collective for far too long, the connection to the Hive Mind all but forgotten.
Although its connection to the Hive Mind was gone, Two of Nine remained Borg in all but name, its captors had partially dismantled it, to study and understand its technology, as it was alien to this region, why it remained here wasn’t obvious. Those that kept Two of Nine retained it for some purpose, so long as it was useful, it would continue to survive, cut off from the Hive Mind and the Collective, that had likely all but forgotten Two of Nine ever existed.
Two of Nine was for all intensive purposes a female of Species 5008, a Klingon female assimilated as a child long ago, those that kept Two of Nine did not understand nor comprehend what its designation was or its relevance, nor why it did not refer to itself by another name, Two of Nine was its designation, as names were irrelevant to the Collective.
A question often posed to Two of Nine was regarding how it came to be where it was, and whether it recalled what happened, its memories regarding its severance from the Collective was entire, its recollections were preserved inside its Borgified brain. Sphere 696 was traversing a transwarp conduit which began to collapse, the end result of which was catastrophic damage to the Sphere and it emerged in a different region of space, unknown to the Collective, somehow Two of Nine survived the carnage on the Sphere, and subsequent cascade failures which finished off the few other drones that survived the virtual destruction of Sphere 696. Two of Nine was plugged into its alcove trying to regenerate, when it was discovered and rescued by its captors.
Two of Nine is aware of the fact that those that keep it for study and analysis do not comprehend what it is to be Borg, the Collective does not exist here, several researchers have tempted fate and found out the hard way what Assimilation means, those drones were not viable, without the Collective and its Hive Mind, they proved inefficient and not viable. What had become of those drones is unknown, however it was likely that their fellow researchers dismantled them for further research.
Two of Nine was stuck inside its prison, attempting to regenerate, when for the first time in an unknown period of time, something happened that if someone had been running a diagnostic would have equated to a surge in its Borg components, another Borg signal was nearby. The lack of the Hive Mind connection return suggested that those that had captured Two of Nine had found another drone, if so, the positive was Two of Nine would not be alone anymore.
Given the lone drone detected and the need to regenerate, Two of Nine did not activate, it would wait for the drone to come its way, what condition the drone would be in remained to be seen, if Two of Nine was anything to go on, it would be partially dismantled and yet still Borg in its own way.
