The humming was cheerful and upbeat as the words came without a thought. Dancing on the tip of the tongue and past smiling lips, on a delicate face that sported pale skin, frames by a pair of kind, tired and exhausted eyes. And yet the Trill to whom such features belonged kept tapping her fingers on the console on her desk humming without thinking.
"We left out house, when in all the windows the lights have gone out,
One after another, we could see how the last trolley left."
There was a soft beep that seemed determined to break the lovely cheerful rhythm of the humming operations officer, but somehow... its attempts have been met with utter dismissal and ignorance. Quite possible not for the first time, nor the last time most likely, or even better yet, most likely for the past two hours of so.
Which normally would not be an issue, if not for the nature of the beep itself. What is that nature, or purpose? Oh, that might just be the shift over alarm for the tired Trill officer. And as tradition has proven so far, it is a alarm that has a purpose in life that is utterly pointless, as it is ignored each time. To the point where there's a small, and cute, very cute actually, spider like little bot that keeps pushing a red button on a small device nearby... that would be the source off the alarm.
"The taxis still work, but we don't have anything to pay with,
Which is why we won't take out, so we walk alone,
And on our stereo, the song is over - play the tape!"
The young looking woman smiles as she finishes writing her report to the department chief. It is her favorite part of the week after all, gathering the reports from all other members of the operations department and compiling a report for the chief. Trimming down some of the boring stuff to just numbers, fluffing other things a bit up because those ops crew members deserve a little bit of praise, or they have managed to pulls a fun stunt with creativity and ingenuity, and overall doing her best to make the department look good.
Sure... there are parts that aren't so pleasant to write, little downs for all the ups, but most of the time she tries to catch them early on to make sure things do not escalate or problems are resolved while still small. Still... with goods and bads, this is her favorite part of the job. This and... smuggling and contraband of generally silly items that no one high on the chain of command wants the headache to stop.
"We have seen the night, we've walks all night, all through the morning."
With those hummed words the Trill officer gets up and taps that poor, exasperated, depressed little spider bot, which falls exhausted on her desk after pressing the alarm button for two hours straight. Its efforts rewarded with a gentle touch of affection from her creature.
And after a minute of rest, it crawls back into the drawer of the desk from which it had crawled out of, pulling the alarm device after it. Then after setting it in place, it used its small, but strong legs to close the drawer and enjoy its rest. After all, the first drawer was its kingdom and home, comfy, lovely, and full of various office tid bits.
"Enter the phone booth, ask to close the door,
In your apartment remove your boots, we will walk without."
Stretching and letting out a happy, yet tired squeak, the Trill officer closes her console after sending the report and gets up from her desk, leaving her office. Still humming and singing while walking through the corridors of the Elysium. The path well worn by her feet, a routine so clockwork and so familiar she could walk with her eyes closed.
There is no rush, the journey is part of the enjoyment. The anticipation of what is to come, as well as the quiet time from source to destination giving her time alone with her thoughts, musings and imagination. It felt like these past few... weeks? Months? She honestly couldn't tell, not because of any problem or time keeping issue, but because time had flows so fast, her perception of its passing feels relative.
"There are smokes, matches and a bottle of wine,
And that will help us wait, it will let us believe,
That everyone is asleep, and we are here just the two of us..."
And with those words her steps stop, her fingers touch the chiming panel and the doors to the holodeck open before her. She smiles as the humming and song stop, her lips smile wider, her eyes glint with mischief as the program activates around her.
"Gadget Girl is back, hope you're ready for a whoooole lot of evil fighting Super Garrett, the best sidekick this side of the universe is... back."
