The Commodore inclined her head warmly as Orin entered, stepping away from her desk. “Legate, thank you—please.” She gestured to the sitting area. “May I offer you tea?”
Andrinn smiled and said, "Yeah, I would love a cup. Thank you."
Her tone carried quiet respect as she poured, setting the cup carefully before taking her own seat. “I wanted your perspective, more than a report.” She met his gaze evenly. “How are things feeling diplomatically? Any tensions we should be paying closer attention to?”
"Nothing recently, thankfully. We've been working with the people of Teevs' homeworld and doing First Contact with them. Very interesting species, if I said so myself. Learned from Teevs that they sometimes have a more literal approach to when they speak. So, butterflies in the stomach wouldn't fly cause they would literally think there's butterflies in your stomach. But, we have been learning about a few species that we might be encountering if we go in certain directions. Just people to keep an eye out for as we continue on course. I should have a list of that in my report once it's finished up," Andrinn said as he thought about the various species that he heard about when talking with the diplomatic leadership of Teevs' world.
"And your team is handling it? I know its a small department. It really should be bigger given the stated purpose of this ship.."
"I've enjoyed it because it means that I get to get my hands dirty or my feet wet a bit more. I just don't get to watch from the sidelines. Plus, I think we did get some extra people from the Romulan ship too, if I remember correctly. So, that's nice," Andrinn said as he took a sip of the drink that was offered to him.
Nodding, Phoenix said "At least the Romulans are predictable .. well more so than any other race we have found here. A race from home who we know is way more predictable than ... well the beasts we faced a few weeks ago."
"Ain't that the truth," Andrinn replied, taking a sip of his own drink. He replied, "I've been trying to get some more information from the various species we've encountered since them about them. The religious people who we encountered after those monsters were really helpful with that and I've tried to keep in touch with them as much as we can. But, the further we go out, the harder it is to keep in touch with them."
"Have you had Ops launch the communication buoys?" Phoenix asked curiously.
"Unfortunately, I haven't had much chance to yet. But, I'll stop by and ask them to on my way out," Orin replied earnestly.
Phoenix nodded. "Good. Also make sure you and your team take the breaks you need."
Orin couldn't help but chuckle as he said, "It's almost like the quote of 'Physician, heal thyself.' I'm bad sometimes at taking breaks and remembering to take those breaks. But, I am working on it."
"Do I need to get your security detail to remind you?" She smiled as she spoke.
Orin playfully put his hands up and said, "Major Richardson reminds me on a daily to make sure to watch out for myself. But, then again, he does a good job at watching out for me and the rest of the diplomats on a daily basis."
Phoenix smirked a bit and finished her tea. "I am glad the detachment is working out."
"They do quite well and I'm glad that I've got them looking out for us. Even if I'm a bit hardheaded sometimes and have to be reminded every so often," Andrinn said as he took the final few sips of his own drink.
"Yes I have had one of your people tell me about them. I think i fixed it by letting her yell at Mattias." Phoenix smiled.
"But, hey! Him and the entire team keep all the diplomats onboard safe! So, that's the main thing that matters!" Andrinn said as he shrugged and smiled at Phoenix.
"True. Josephine will get used to it." She smiled. "And I got to babysit her daughter while she yelled and Joshua watched Awkwardly. It was fun."
Andrinn chuckled as he replied, "Sorry I didn't get to see that one! Must've been fun to be a fly on the wall for that one!"
"It was." Phoenix admitted. "Josie isnt scared of me or Mattias so it was very different."
"That's probably cause she knows you guys so well. It makes me think back to when I first joined the crew about four years ago. About how nervous that I was before I first met you cause I didn't know you yet. Now....we're having a good drink and catching up on everything. So, I do want to thank you for the drink and the catch up," Andrinn offered up with a small smile coming across his face.
"My pleasure." She replied with a grin. "I try to make sure all my staff know i am here if they need to speak,"
Andrinn stood up and smiled at Lalor. As he headed towards the door to her office, Andrinn stopped at it and turned back to say with a smile, "And same back to you, Commodore! Don't ever feel like a stranger, especially down in the Diplomatic wing."
